Abstract

RIFQY FADILLAH Reg. Number (58430596) : THE INFLUENCE OF USING PICTURE CARDS MEDIA APPLICATION ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF STUDENTS' COMPETENCE IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 3 PALIMANAN CIREBON. Media has an important place to create an effective learning process. Teaching aids or audio visual aids is the teacher’s aids that are used to teach the students to explain the material and avoid a verbal way in teaching. Therefore, the teachers use teaching media such as: video, tape recorder, picture, charts, etc. In this research, the writer chooses SMP N 3 Palimanan Cirebon as the place of research. Because most of the students of SMP N 3 Palimanan Cirebon especially class VII H are difficult to write English. They are also bored in the process teaching and learning writing, students usually find many difficulties in finding the idea, arranging the word and elaborating it into a good sentence and paragraph. In order to, they are lazy to write English. Especially to write recount text. Writing recount text is very important for the students. By writing recount text, the students can retell their activities in the past. By using picture cards media application, the students will be easier to writing recount text. Because picture cards represent real objects and picture will give help to the students to interest them so that they can help the students to improve the students' competence in writing recount text. The approach of the research in writing this thesis is quantitative approach. The techniques of collecting data is test. The quantitative data that analyze by using T-test (pre-test and post-test one group design). Having analyzed the data, the writer found that the mean score of the students' achievement in writing recount text before using picture cards media application is 56.5. The mean score of the students' achievement in writing recount text after using picture cards media application is 63.75. Based on the column of Normality test that significance value for pre test and post test are 0.200. Based on the column of homogeneity test that significance value for post test is 0.057. And The score of ttest is 10.097. So the result of ttest is 10.097 > ttable is 2.04. From the result above, Ha is received and H0 is ignored, it can be known that there is positive and significant influence or improvement of using picture cards media application on the improvement of students' competence in writing recount text.
