Abstract

This research finds out developing video for teaching suggestions and offers for eleventh grade of vocational high school. The aim of this research (1) to explain the needs of teachers to make videos for teaching suggestions and offers for eleventh grade of vocational high school and (2) to develop videos to teach suggestions and offers for eleventh grade of vocational high school. In addition, the purpose of this research for teachers and other researchers is to be used as a reference for their consideration in developing videos for teaching suggestions and offers. The researcher combined a qualitative approach with design-based research (DBR). Participants in this research included eleventh grade vocational high school students majoring in Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) and an English teacher, who were then compared and contrasted to obtain actual data. The questionnaire was distributed to the students, and the teacher was interviewed. The findings of this research are (1) the preparation of the syllabus, lesson plans, materials to be taught and the media to be used are very important for teachers for developing videos for teaching suggestions and offers for eleventh grade of vocational high school, (2) videos containing definitions of suggestions and offers, characteristic of suggestions and offers, expressions of suggestions and offers include responding (accepting and declining), the questions of suggestions and offers, and also the dialogue of suggestions and offers, (3) video must contain concepts accompanied by example, both examples written in whiteboard or concrete examples (direct interaction or dialogue) in order to know the difference, (4) the use of strategies or methods used by the teacher in learning, for example student representatives make suggestions and offers dialogues and the teacher will translate it, (5) the use of animation and back sound is not really needed because it can make students are not focused, and (6) the use of video is sufficient, so it does not require PowerPoint, because it takes a long time and is less effective.
