Abstract
Imas Maslahah: THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE STUDENTS’ RESPONSE OF USING SHORT STORY AS MEDIA ON THEIR ABILITY IN LEARNING COMPOUND SENTENCE AT SMPN 2 JATIWANGI KABUPATEN MAJALENGKA . English as internasional language have four main skills that must be studied they are reading, speaking, listening and writing.writing as one of the four language skils, constitues as aprocess to obtain much informations , to get meaning from printed to written materials,the aims of the research in this thesis is to find out the data of the students response using short story responseas media on their ability in learning compound sentence at SMPN 2 Jatiwangi Majalengka,the approach of the research in writing this thesis is using a quantitative approach,the technique for collecting data used by the writer are pretest and postest.after the data have been collected, the writer result from the test with formula product moment,interview with asks some question to the teacher, and the questionare with giving some question which prepared to know the result of the influence of using short story on students‟ ability in learning compound sentence.The conclusion of this research is the response the students using short story and the students‟ ability in learning compound sentence of 64.5 and 77 this means that the teaching and learning English especially in writing short story has significant in this writer‟s research. And the result of the computation using formula Pearson product moment also indicates that the value of 0.66 t-table has significant 5%. It means there is positive and significant response between at standard significance 5 %, to >„t‟ table or 10.63 > 2.04 or 10.63 is bigger than 2.04 by significance 5 %. It means the hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hyphothesis (Ha) is accepted. At the level of standard of significance 5 % there is a positive influence between X variable ( the students‟ using short story ) and Y variable ( the students‟ abilty in learning compound sentence).It means that the data being obtained in particular form of influence are presented are numbers; conseqently, they can be measued and interpreted by means of using statical analytic.
