Abstract
Nurjanah : The Influence of The Application of Total Physical Response (TPR) method on The Students’ Understanding in Responding Command Sentence. Method of teaching is used at Mts Darul Masholeh Kota Cirebon is limited, especially in teaching English learning command sentence. The students understanding in command sentence is low, especially in knowing the meaning and responding command sentence correctrly and quickly, these are caused byless motivation in learning English. this research is based on the Richard and Rodger quote Asher’s theory which TPR method can also be linked to the “trace theory” of memory in psychology, which holds that the more often or the more intensively a memory connection is traced, the stronger the memory association will be and the more likely it will be recalled. In other words, TPR method canhelp students to more easy and fun in learning English command sentence. Command sentence to be more easy to be learned by using TPR method. The aim of this research is to know To find out the data about the students’ application of total physical response method.To find out the data about the students’ understanding in responding command sentence. To find out the data about the positive and significant influence of the application of Total Physical Response method on the students understanding in responding the influence of the application of TPR method on the students understanding in responding command sentence. The kind of this research is quantitative research. In this research the writer uses the population research on the favorite class at the first year students at MTs Darul Mashokeh especially class VIIA consist 32 students, because the writer want to know how far the students competence in favorite class to the application of TPR method in command sentence.The instrumets of collecting the data are, observation, interview, and questionnaire. In analyze the data, the writer uses the formula of product moment correlation for quantitative data. The result of the application of TPR method is categorized “enough good”, the score is 40,87. The average score of the students understanding in responding command sentence is 43.34 is categorized “enoughvgood”. the result calculation of X variable and Y variable above the value “ " is 0.80 is existising between 0.60- 0.80, it is categorized high correlation. the influence of the application of TPR method contributes 64% on the students understanding in responding command sentence, and it can be known that 36% is correleted by another aspects. The influence is high correlation between two variables because from the result of in the level of “t” (7.30 > 2.04 and 7.30 > 2.75) showed that in the level of significance 5% and 1% the alternative hypothesis ( ) is approved and the null hypothesis ( ) is rejected. In other words, there is a significant and positive influence between X variable and Y variable.
