Abstract
Wayang shows have not been recognized as a medium and source of learning. The view of Wayang shows is more as entertainment than as a medium of learning. The emergence of the Wayang “Potel” which accommodates the tradition of local wisdom of the people in the northern coastal region of Dermayon and Cerbon, is an effort to revitalize the existence of puppetry as a medium of learning, preserve ancestral traditions, love the culture of the nation itself, and foster the spirit of nationalism. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods with phenomenological approaches. Data collection uses in-depth interview techniques, participant observation, and documentation studies. The study found: (1) The transformation of Wayang Potel culture is a representation of conventional Wayangs to new one that are not only as a medium of entertainment, but can be as a medium, material, source, and method of learning in Islamic educational institutions, such as mosques, mushalas, boarding schools, and madrasahs; (2) The psycho- religious values contained in the Wayang Potel show are succinctly appeared in good relationships with God, good relationships between people, and good relationships with the environment; (3) The process of psycho-religious internalization is obtained from the messages contained in the play and figures in Wayang Potel through the process of imitation, identification, and internalization
