Abstract

Writing pedagogy in Indonesia raises alarming concerns, as its implementation is discrepant with the goal of transformative learning in the 21st century and principles in the deep learning approach. This issue highlights the needs of deviation in writing instruction to be more innovative and meaningful, moving beyond rigid and uniform structure of instruction. This qualitative content analysis study analyzes 15 abstracts written by undergraduate students majoring English Language Teaching Department which aims to explore the quality of thesis abstracts by assessing the informational flow of the authors through the text and its resonance with the problem-solving structure within the texts. Through the implementation of these two Brain-Informed frameworks; Reading for Emotion (Lian, 2017; 2024), Aesthetics Principles (Ramachandran & Hirstein, 1999), the REA integration, and incorporation of AI-Assisted tool, specifically QwenAI, the study further aims to give a new way of assessing the quality of academic texts from different lens and the new way of utilizing digital technology based on Alternative Intelligence concept. As stated by Sudimantara (2021) and Sudimantara, et al (2025), these tools optimize learning by aligning teaching strategies with human brain function, affecting in more meaningful learning cognitively and affectively. The findings reveal that across 15 analyzed abstracts, there are four abstracts that have dynamic informational flow, emphasizing tension to guide reader’s attention and provide moral closure. REA integration, moreover, indicates that the Focus stage dominates and reflects the principle of symmetry and order, suggesting an emphasis on descriptive reporting in most abstracts. This research matters because it explains how academic abstracts work not only at the structure level, but more at the level of reader engagement. This study is expected to be able to contribute in the development of writing pedagogy to be a more meaningful way through human brain-aligned frameworks.
