Abstract
NURFAIZAH : Language is very important in our life because language is a tool of communication to produce information which is delivered by the speaker towards the intended person or the writer towards the reader. In learning English, reading is important because when the students learn English, they need reading skill to read the English texts. The students‘ reading comprehension at the first grade students of SMP Wahidin Cirebon are not good enough or lack to master it yet. It means that it needs the serious process of teaching, learning and understanding in English reading more seriously of the teachers and the students at SMP Wahidin Kota Cirebon. The writer knows that the students‘ reading comprehension is not good enough it yet, so there is a authentic material to improve the students in reading comprehension, it is product label. It is one of authentic materials that used as media to improve the reading skill of the students. By applying the authentic material in teaching and learning activities will be more varied and help students in vocabulary to comprehend the text. Thus, the students will be more interested and motivated to learn. Because the application of authentic material in learning based on students real life. It is very clear that the application of the authentic material can help the students in reading English text. The aims of the research are to find out the students‘ response to the application of the authentic material used by teacher in teaching reading procedure text, to find out the students‘ achievement in reading procedure text before and after the application of authentic material, and to find out whether there is any positive and significant influence of the application of authentic material on the students‘ achievement in reading procedure text. To find out all the data in this research, the writer used quantitative approach, the writer used pre and post test in reading procedure text for students. And also she has done observation in teaching process, questionnaire, and interview with the teacher and students about everything as a source of information for the research. As the research findings, the writer can draw a conclusion that there is a positive and significant influence in students‘ achievement in reading procedure text. The result of students‘ achievement in reading procedure text before using the application of authentic material as a variable ―X1‖ the average source is 6, and after using the application of authentic material as a variable ―X2‖ is 8. The result of the influence coefficient is 3.33. This is based on value of ―t test‖. It shows there is positive and significant influence on students‘ achievement in reading procedure text.
