Abstract
Islamic psychology is one of the new disciplines which is born as the antithesis to the various schools of modern western psychology. It was not only considered as the Indigenous Psychology, but also expected as an alternative psychology tracing empirical (alam syahadah) and non empirical natures (alam ghaib). Unfortunately, for the last five years, the development of this science seems to run very slow and tends only to swirl at the level of normative discourse rather than applicable one. And finally, because this science can not be verified scientifically, some mainstream Psychologiests sneer at the ability and scholarly Islamic Psychology. Regardless of agree and disagree on the presence of the new discipline, Islamic Psychology remains “a land of intellectual efforts” that never runs out. For this reason, this paper attempt to do an analysis of the development of the study of Islamic Psychology in two countries; Indonesia and Malaysia. This paper tries to trace sustained efforts that have been made of Indonesian and Malaysian Muslim intellectuals in order to strengthen Psychology based on Islamic perspective and conduct a comparison study to look at the similarities and differences in study patterns between Malaysia and Indonesia.
