Abstract
Writing is a language skill that is considered the most difficult compared to other language skills because writing is a productive skill that requires knowledge and ability. Therefore, for the process of learning to write, the teacher must create writing materials that suit the needs of students. According to Haryanti (2016) the material is one way to improve students' writing skills. Using the right materials will help students to learn to write in a good way, and as a learning resource for students. The purpose of this study was to determine the principles and prototype cross-curricular ESL writing materials for Madrasah Aliyah. This type of research is an RnD (Research and Development) model using the Borg and Gall method which has been modified by Sugiyono (2017) but is simplified according to research needs. Data Collection Techniques And Instruments this research uses documentation techniques. The results obtained by the research are: Prototypes of materials are made in accordance with the principles of a cross-curicular writing ESL materials for Madrasah Aliyah, namely from the aspect of content, material presentation, Language, in making this material using simple and communicative language so that it is easily understood by students, using graphics so that students use this handout more interesting, and can increase student learning motivation, integrating English subjects with geography subjects which are interrelated. The basic competence (KD) as the principle of relevance in the manufacture of these materials, because it refers to the linkage of subjects. In addition, it must use the principle of consistency to make learning materials and learning activities that must be in accordance with basic competencies (KD), and finally the principle of adequacy, where the material made should not be too little or too much. Be the final product that is Handout.
