Abstract

AISYAH AMALIA: “THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ RESPONSE OF USING MICROSOFT POWER POINT IN TEACHING ON THE STUDENTS’ COMPETENCE IN ENGLISH VOCABULARY AT THE FIRST YEAR AT SMP NEGERI 1 JAMBLANG – CIREBON” English is one of the languages that had appeared in our surrounding. In Indonesia, English is as the second language. Of course Indonesian has the difficulties when they learn English because English is the second language. In order to be able to understand for Indonesian, so the teacher creates the media of teaching to obtain the point of learning English. And the teaching learning process will be meaningful if the teacher could make the situation of the class alive such as to choose on interesting material. So, the teacher will help the students to become interested in the subject. One of the interesting materials is teaching and learning though Microsoft power point, because it can influente students‟ competence in learning process especially in English Vocabulary. Power point is a widely use presentation program that originated in the world of bussiness but has now become common place in the world of educational technology. However, its use is far from controversial in this educational context and opinions as to its use range from highly supportive to significantly negative(Szabo & Hastings, 2000; Lowry, 2003). The aims of the research is to find out the data from the students, such as: To find out the students‟ response of using Microsoft power point to the students‟ (X variable), the students‟ competence in English vocabulary (Y variable) and the correlation between the students‟ response of using Microsoft power point and the students‟ competence in English Vocabulary(X variable and Y variable). After analyzed the data by using the formula of Product Moment Correlation by Pearson, the writer found that correlation between X variable and Y variable has a sufficient or an enough value, the value of the correlation is 0.53 and after it is consulted with by using the table of value of “r” product moment, its showed that there is enough or sufficient correlation between the using Microsoft power point with the students‟ competence in English Vocabulary. From the result above, it can be known that there is significant and positive correlation between students‟ response of using Microsoft power point on the students‟ competence in English Vocabulary. So using Microsoft power point to increase students‟ competence in English Vocabulary because by using Microsoft power point students will express their ideas, and make students feel enjoy and interested to study English.
