Abstract

AMIR MU`MIN : “THE INFLUENCE OF USING ENGLISH MOVIES AS ALTERNATIVE TEACHING MEDIA ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT AT THE SECOND CLASS OF THE STUDENTS OF MA DARUL MASHOLEH” In real life, Audio and visual things are needed to make the learning process interesting. One of intresting media in this context is a movie. A Movie is also expression of human that can be listened and watched in enjoy situation. For audience, a movie is a type for media that is unique and interesting. It can be learnt by students in order not to be bored while learning vocabulary, listening, speaking. Vocabulary is the basic element in language that is usually used as tool to access knowledge background, to express ideas, and to learn new concept. It is one of important parts in learning English, especially in reading comprehension for the beginner. The main reasons for these are: firstly, vocabulary is used as the main tool to understand forms, phrases, sentences and texts in one or more paragraph; secondly, it functions to convey the meaning of the word in a text. The aims of the research done by the writer are to find out the data about the application of English movie, to find out the data about the students vocabulary achievement and to know if there is significant influence of using English movies as alternative teaching media on students‟ vocabulary achievement at the second class of the students of MA Darul Masholeh. The techniques that are used by the writer in the research are observation, interview, and test. The writer uses the quantitative approach. It means that the data which have been collected are analyzed by means of the statistical analysis. The conclusion of this thesis is that the result of computation of influence between X and Y variable is 0.5.9 X variable is the use of English movie and Y variable is the students` vocabulary achievement. The score 0.59 of the computation of product moment influence can be assumed as “enough influence”. It means that it is significant or there is enough influence between the use of English movies and the students vocabulary achievement.
