Abstract
NAELY UMI SOFWATI:The Influence of The Application of SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, And Review) on The Students’ English Reading Comprehension At The Second Year Students Of Mts Global Al-Rahmah Gebang Cirebon. English has become international language, so it is necessary to acquire that language. The main reasons why people learn another language is it know more about the world both in speaking and writing. Speaking is submitted to the listener. Using a written language is submitted to the reader. It makes English becomes the main material in School curriculum since the base level. And it is happen also in MTs Global Al-Rahmah Gebang Cirebon that was become the location of language research by the researcher, especially in the students’ comprehending the text. Researcher chooses the material of reading text to be researched because the students sometimes feel difficult to comprehend and understand the text that is given the teacher. The researcher wants to try the reading technique, is SQ3R(Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review). It cause that the title of this thesis is “The Effect of The Application of SQ3R on Students’ English Reading Comprehension at Second Year of MTs Global Al-Rahmah Gebang Cirebon”. SQ3R is one of the techniques in reading comprehension which helps students to develop their reading habits, comprehend the material, and understand the topic, the main idea, and English words in reading text. Al Khuli (1957: 76) states SQ3R is the type of Reading and advanced student is expected to often do in reading text. SQ3R is an excellent technique and most useful to use with text that provide a lot of information and require you to learn the material in limit time. The techniques of collecting data used by the researcher are test and questionnaire. All of these kinds of techniques of collecting data are used to collect the data are categorized as the quantitative data. The research uses pre-experimental design, that is one-group pretest and post test design. There are four important things found in this research. The First, the students’ response to SQ3R is more than 80% of the respondent. The second, the students’ English reading comprehension before using SQ3R (X1) is 67. The third, the students’ English reading comprehension after using SQ3R (X2) is 80.5. And the last, the effectiveness of SQ3R on students’ English reading comprehension is effect positively, it is supported by the value ttest (7.47) > ttable (2.02) or Ha >Ho. There is significant influence of the application of SQ3R on students’ reading comprehension. This result can be concluded that students’ reading comprehension increases when they are studying reading comprehension using SQ3R. It is proved by the progress of the students’ marks after they got SQ3R technique. The pre-test and post-test score is different, and it shows the improvement.
