Abstract

This study shows that teachers play a key role as agents of change and curriculum developers. The learning crisis in Indonesia, as seen in poor EPI, TIMSS, and PISA results, is mainly due to issues in the current school curriculum. The focus on traditional teaching methods, where teachers give information and students passively receive it, has caused rigidity in the education system. Sudimantara's (2021) research highlights the benefits of using non-traditional methods, especially those involving nonverbal elements. This study uses a research and development approach, combining teaching methods, technology, and the CEFR to create new learning resources that change students' mindsets and increase their engagement in learning English. In 2017, A.B. Lian introduced Reading for Emotions, which emphasizes the importance of emotions in learning. The research uses stories, based on Peterson's (2017) idea that stories activate parts of the brain, helping listeners connect the story to their own experiences. The objectives of this research are to describe how learning English through storybooks is viewed from a need analysis perspective and to describe the process involved in developing a history book tailored to support a new approach in teaching English. This research uses the R&D method with the ADDIE model. The results of this study show that, from the need analysis, most students have a positive opinion that there is a need for new learning resources and a new approach in their school. Additionally, this research includes stories from the golden age of Islam that are engaging and teach valuable lessons, demonstrating a strong learning spirit and providing role models for high school students to pursue knowledge diligently for the benefit of their community. Keywords: Innovations, CEFR, Digital Learning Resource, Reading for Emotions, Islamic Scientist Story.
