Abstract

For most students, learning to read expositions is not easy. When reading expository material, it is difficult to understand the purpose of reading. Students face difficulties in identifying key concepts and certain details in the text. In essence, these problems cause EFL learners to find reading expository texts a challenging task. Since expository texts are difficult for almost all students to understand, teachers need strategies to facilitate their comprehension of the text. Incorporating digital reading resources in the form of expository texts based on CEFR levels into the EFL classroom provides an opportunity to improve English language skills and critical thinking. This research resulted in the need and prototype of CEFR-based digital expository reading resources. This research was conducted using an R&D design with a qualitative approach. This research used 3 stages in the ADDIE Model, namely the analysis, the design, and the development stage, because this method is in accordance with the conditions and objectives of developing learning products in the form of websites. The needs analysis is conducted through interviews with two teachers regarding what students need when learning using the internet. The results showed that digital resources are needed to help students learn expository texts. Therefore, the researchers developed website-based digital resources as learning aids in schools. This website can be operated on computers, laptops, and mobile phones. Keywords: Reading resources, Digital, CEFR-based, Expository
