Abstract

N 1 Beber Cirebon.) This research problem highlights the low pronunciation skills possessed by most students. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using the TikTok application in improving ninth-grade EFL students' English as a foreign language pronunciation skills. The research method used in this study is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group of students who used TikTok for pronunciation practice and a control group who did not use the app. In collecting data, the population for this study comprised ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Beber in the 2023–2024 school year, totaling 9 classes. The sample consisted of two classes, class IX G and class IX I. The instruments used to collect the data were pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 26. The research findings show that the average value of the experiment class pre-test is 50.29 and post-test is 73.53, then there is an increase in value from the pre-test to the post-test. The significance of the pre-test and post-test experiment class is 0.000. It means 0.000 < 0.05; it can be concluded that the use of TikTok application on pronunciation has a significant effect on improving pronunciation. The result of the effectiveness level of using TikTok for pronunciation learning can be confirmed at 56.20%, including in the quite effective category. Based on this, the TikTok application can contribute as supporting media to improve pronunciation. The results of this study can be used to develop more effective learning materials and strategies that utilize the potential of TikTok to improve students' pronunciation.
