Abstract

Mastery of comprehension and critical analysis in reading is an essential talent that Indonesian students must acquire to navigate the current era of digitalization effectively. Developing English language abilities requires students to acquire the ability to engage in critical reading. This entails comprehending, evaluating, and expressing thoughts or arguments about the content being read. Nevertheless, most high school students have difficulties acquiring this ability. Therefore, transformative change in learning should be implemented to overcome this problem. Recently, Indonesian curricula have adopted the CEFR as a standard for English language instruction. It has become a global framework for designing language curricula and assessing learning objectives. To understand and learn about their culture, social features, and morals, students should also study information related to their surroundings, such as urban legend stories. This study aims to develop the CEFR-based digital urban legend resource from Brebes that helps 10th-grade students in Brebes to empower their critical reading. The method of this research uses research and development (R&D) to take qualitative data, including analysis, design, and development. The result shows that this digital learning resource is appropriate for use in the classroom, while future developments are anticipated to bring about some upgrades. The intended use of this study is to raise teachers' knowledge of the need to create creative learning opportunities to empower students' learning skills.
