Abstract

This study aims to determine students' speaking abilities after applying the Memrise Application to class VIII students. The strategy means for English teachers to make better and more effective strategies in teaching English. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of memrise application in students' speaking abilities. This research was aimed to find out the following: (1) To explore whether there is any significant effect on students’ speaking ability before and after being taught by using Memrise Application. (2) To explore whether there is any significant difference on students’ speaking ability before and after being taught by using Memrise Application. This research method is a quantitative method and the design used in this study is a quasi-experimental design. In data collection, the total population of this study was 54 students consisting of two classes. The sample of this study were 31 students of class VIII J Language as the experimental class and 23 students of class VIII I Sains as the control class at MTS N 3 Cirebon. The instruments used to collect the data were pre-test and Post-test. The data analysed using SPSS 27. The writers collect the data by using tests, documentation and recording. The results of this research indicate that the use of the Memrise application media is effective in improving students' speaking skills in English subjects in asking and giving opinions material for class VIII students at MTs N 3 Cirebon. This is shown by the mean score in the experimental class (28.52), The N-Gain score for the Experimental class which uses the Memrise application media is 57.7%. and the independent sample t-test post-test value in the experimental class (.044) was greater than the post-test in the control class (.039). Thus, it can be concluded that students' speaking skills improved significantly after receiving treatment. So, the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
