Abstract
This study explores the challenges and opportunities in teaching and learning English in the cyber era at Community Learning Center (CLC) for Indonesian students in Kimanis, Malaysia. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews with one English teacher and 15 students, as well as classroom observations. The results of the study reveal various interrelated challenges, including limited physical infrastructure, lack of learning resources, unstable internet connection, multi-level classroom management, and shortage of qualified English teachers. Digital era challenges also emerged, such as students' dependence on translation tools, low digital literacy, and the negative influence of social media on language use. Limited parental educational background further exacerbates learning support at home. Nevertheless, this study also identified a number of opportunities, such as high student motivation, a multicultural learning environment, and the potential for utilizing digital technology as a learning aid if used appropriately. This study concludes that adaptive and contextual teaching strategies, infrastructure improvements, teacher training, and collaboration among stakeholders are urgently needed to improve the quality of English language learning in transnational school settings with limited resources such as CLC Kimanis.
