Abstract
This study explores the utilization of Poe.AI, an AI-powered chatbot platform, by English teachers in designing effective and engaging learning processes for writing skills at Islamic based senior high schools (based pesantren). The research is driven by the growing need for teachers to integrate technology meaningfully in the classroom, especially in enhancing students' writing abilities, which are often considered complex, demanding, and time consuming to teach. Employing a qualitative approach, the study collected data through literature reviews, in-depth interviews with English teachers, and rubric-based assessment of teaching modules developed using Poe.AI. The findings reveal that Poe.AI serves as a supportive and innovative tool for teachers in generating ideas, structuring lesson plans, and tailoring writing exercises that match students’ academic needs. Teachers perceive the platform as helpful in enhancing creativity, language development, and saving preparation time, although they express concerns regarding over-reliance and the need for well-crafted prompts to yield high-quality outputs. The analysis of the lesson module designs, assessed on aspects such as relevance, coherence, creativity, and practicality, shows varied quality depending on the teacher's digital literacy, instructional experience, and ability to interact effectively with Poe.AI. The study concludes that while Poe.AI holds promising potential to assist teachers in writing instruction design, professional development and critical digital literacy remain essential. The study recommends further integration of AI training in teacher development programs, particularly in pesantren-based schools, to ensure ethical, responsible, and effective use. This research contributes to the understanding of AI-assisted pedagogy and provides insight into practical implementation in faith-based educational contexts
