Abstract

Khotimah. 14111330142. The effectiveness of using word wall on students’ mastery in vocabulary of recount text “holiday” at the eighth grade students of MTs Khas Kempek Kabupaten Cirebon. Vocabulary is the most important thing to master in English language, because vocabulary cannot be separateds from learning English. It means that limited vocabulary impairs personal ability in using language. So, the people cannot express their ideas or feelings in the target language. In fact that, English seems the most difficult to be mastered if lack of vocabulary. This research is about the effectiveness of using word wall on students‟ mastery in vocabulary of recount text “holiday” at the eight grade students of MTs Khas Kempek Kabupaten Cirebon. The aims of this research are: (1) to find out the students achievement before using Word Wall media in vocabulary ability, (2) to find out the students achievement after using Word Wall media in vocabulary ability, (3) to find out there is a positive and significant effect of using of Word Wall media to increase vocabulary ability. This research method is quantitative, that used quasi experimental design. It is consist of two classes, namely experimental class and control class. The subject of this research was eighth grade students of MTs Khas Kempek Kabupaten Cirebon which consist of 23 students each of classes. The technique of collecting data in this research used a t-test and SPSS 21.0 for window. The result findings of this research are students who were taught by using Word Wall media at experimental class for pre-test got mean score 51.13 and for post-test got mean score 64.39. While, students who were taught without using Word Wall media at control class for pre-test got mean score 47.22 and for post-test got mean score 55.13. the result of calculated by independent sample t-test shows that the the obtained sig. (2-tailed) = 0.002 < 0.05. Then, tcount 3.315 > ttable 1.672) indicates that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the effect size (r = 0,45). So, it can be concluded that there is significant effect of using Word Wall media on students‟ vocabulary skill. Based on the result findings, It mean that there is the difference shown Ha rejected the students‟ vocabulary abilities significantly between using word wall and without using word wall at MTs Khas Kempek Kabupaten Cirebon.
