Abstract
Some of today's teachers have difficulty composing a formative assessment. It is well known that assessment is essential to measure the teaching and learning progress and higher thinking levels as of today's requirements. This study aims to analyze the current question banks product and attempt to design a preliminary form of a question bank to assist teachers in composing and conducting an assessment. The study employs an R & D research and development model and a qualitative approach. The researcher adopted three steps of Borg & Gall's theory (1) research information and collection, (2) planning, and (3) developing a preliminary form of the product. Documentation data collecting techniques were employed to determine the question bank's characteristics and shortcomings. Critical literature review and qualitative item analysis were employed to analyze data. Twenty-six indicators of question banks were identified from reviewing relevant literature. The twenty-six indicators were used to investigate the shortcomings of the current products of question banks. Ten shortcomings were identified in both products; product two showed fewer shortcomings than product one with details, product one contributed 10 (38.4%), and product two had 9 (34.6%) missed indicators. The twenty-six indicators and ten shortcomings were considered to construct product specifications which contain product identifications, forty item indicators, and twelve item cards. The preliminary form of question banks was designed by adapting existing products and fixing their shortcomings. Forty items were drafted and displayed into quizizz; the items have characteristics more engaged in higher-level thinking, 40% of C4 items were categorized as HOTS items, and 52,5% of items were determined as Medium level of difficulties. The developed product still in preliminary form; thus, expert validation and field testing are suggested to make the product is valid and ready to implement for the users.
