Abstract
Learning English, especially listening skills, can be challenging without the support of media. Therefore, the use of media technology in schools needs to be developed. The aim of the research is to find out the effectiveness of using podcast as learning media on students listening and to find out significant different before and after using English podcast on students listening skill in junior high. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental method using two group which is one group for experimental group and one group for control group. The population of this research was the second grade students in junior high school. The sample of this research was students at VIII E which including 25 students and students at VIII B which including 25 students. The instruments use to collect the data are test and questionnaire. The test was used in two stages in this study, that is in the pre-test before given treatment and post-test after being treated using the English podcast. Test used to see if there is a significant the influence exerted by variable x (English podcast) on variable y (students’ listening skill). The results showed that the post-test the average score of the experimental class was 76.80 while the average score of the post-test control class is 74.00. This shows that there is a significant difference between the mean post-test scores of the two classes. the findings show that sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.001, which is less than the specified significance value of 0.05. In other words, p < α; (0.001 <0.05). This shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the English podcast is effective in improving students’ listening skill in eighth grade students junior high School for the 2023/2024 academic year.
