Abstract

Mindset plays an important role in the teaching and learning process, which can affect student thinking, student reactions, activities, and personality. Mindsets seemed like a tricky concept to learn English. The state of mind is created to explain everything that we see and feel, changes in mindsets sometimes happen to everyone, especially to people who always experience it, because they realize the slightest change in mindsets, even if they feel positive or euphoric. This study aims to examine the factors that most affect the mindset of students as well as the influence of students' mindset on the value of English in learning English. This study used a mix method with the aim of obtaining data and obtaining questions and answers from. The population is eighth grade students in one of the junior high schools in Cirebon. Sample selection using probability sampling with VIII F and G. Data collection using questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that there are thirteen factors that can affect students' mindsets during English language learning, namely effort, general viewpoint on own ability, education, experiences, challenges, obstacles, criticism, success of others, environment, society, goals, teaching method, and parental support. While the factors that most affect the mindset of students is education with a probability of 60.5%. Furthermore, there is the effect between students’ mindsets and English scores as much as 74.9%.
