Abstract

This research problem highlights the low reading comprehension skills of students, the lack of diverse reading materials, and the lack of learning media used in the classroom. This study aims to determine students' reading comprehension skills on narrative text after using the application of Let's Read Asia as digital media and to determine the effectiveness of using the application of Let's Read Asia on students' reading comprehension skills. This research method was a quantitative method and the design used in this study was a quasi-experimental design. In collecting the data, the population for this study comprised ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Talun Cirebon in the 2023-2024 academic year. The samples of this study were 31 students of class IX A as the experimental class and 31 students of class IX C as the control class. The instruments used to collect the data were pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 26. The research findings show that the average value of the experiment class pre-test was 66.45 and the post-test was 76.45. There was an increase in value from the pre-test to the post-test in the experimental class. In other words, there was a significant difference between the mean of pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental class. The findings show that sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which was less than the specified significance value of 0.05. The null hypothesis (Ho) was found to be statistically significant and hence rejected, whereas the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was deemed to be supported by the data and accepted. This implies that the Let's Read Asia application has significant effect on students' reading comprehension ability. The result of the effectiveness level of using Let’s Read Asia can be confirmed at 1.47, including in the strong category. Based on this, Let’s Read Asia can be used as digital media to improve students’ reading comprehension. The results of this study can be used to develop more effective reading learning materials and strategies by utilizing the potential of Let's Read Asia to improve students' reading comprehension.
