Abstract
This study aims to investigate the approaches utilised by English educators within the Merdeka Curriculum framework at senior high schools. The study examines the viewpoints and approaches adopted by English educators concerning the Merdeka Curriculum, which prioritises student-centered learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The investigation adopts a case study methodology and employs qualitative data collection techniques, such as interviews and documentation, to obtain insights from two seasoned English teachers in Senior High Schools. This study's findings highlight two primary areas of focus: Initially, instructional approaches that incorporate project-based learning, the integration of technology, and the customisation of learning experiences. Through project-based learning, students engage in practical applications by tackling projects that address real-world issues, thereby deepening their comprehension and skill set. Technology facilitates personalised learning, enabling students to progress according to their individual pace and preferred methods. Differentiated learning tailors instructional approaches to align with the unique needs and interests of each student, enabling every individual to achieve their maximum potential. Secondly, educators' perspectives on the Merdeka curriculum indicate that it offers opportunities for fostering students' critical and creative thinking abilities, motivating them to engage in independent analysis and problem-solving. This study concludes that the Merdeka Curriculum has the potential to enhance the quality of education in Indonesia and improve learning outcomes by establishing a flexible and adaptive teaching environment. It also offers policymakers valuable insights to support the development of a more effective curriculum.
