Abstract

English has emerged as the most frightening subject for a significant number of students. This fear subsequently engenders a disinclination towards the language, rendering the mastery of English a formidable challenge. The purpose in this research focuses on the need analysis of developing an English-friendly learning environment through physical learning environment, psychological learning environment, and social-emotional learning environment for students' growth mindset in learning English. This research used qualitative research method. The data was collected through structured interviews with two English teachers at a Junior High School in Cirebon. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The need analysis show three main points: (1) the needs for engaging and well-equipped physical learning environment making English friendly learning environment, (2) the needs for challenging and constructive psychological learning environment, (3) the needs for supportive social-emotional learning environment. This research results also revealed six main requirements: (1) the importance of practice and actual experience in learning, (2) giving motivation and positive learning approaches, (3) the influence of social and family environment, (4) utilization of technology and digital media in learning English, (5) utilizing creative methods and approaches in teaching, (6) the role of teacher communities in improving teaching.
