Abstract

Speaking skills are vital for successful interaction in business, education, and social contexts, yet many students face challenges in mastering them. This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of the ELSA Speak application in improving the English-speaking abilities of grade ten students at SMAN 1 Tukdana. Using a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach, the study involved a single group of students to determine the impact of the ELSA Speak app on their speaking skills. The participants first underwent a pre-test to measure their initial proficiency, followed by a treatment phase using the app, and finally, a post-test to assess improvements. The data analysis technique employed in this research was descriptive statistic. The pre-test results revealed an average score of 47.2, indicating that the students' speaking abilities were lacking. However, after three rounds of treatment with ELSA Speak, the post-test average increased to 70.6, reflecting significant improvements in pronunciation, fluency, and confidence. The findings suggest that the ELSA Speak application, with its Keywords: ELSA Speak, speaking skills, teaching media, technology interactive features, instant feedback, and gamification elements, effectively enhanced students' speaking abilities. Additionally, the app helped expand their vocabulary and overall language proficiency. This research supports the integration of technology, specifically ELSA Speak, into language instruction as a valuable tool for improving communication skills. The study reinforces the potential of digital tools to facilitate modern language education and motivate learners in an increasingly interconnected world
