Abstract

This researcher aims to analyze the suitability of reading material in an English textbook entitled “English for Change” for second grade students of senior high school based on the curriculum Merdeka. This research used qualitative methods with a content analysis method to evaluate the suitability of reading material with the criteria of Curriculum Merdeka and Pusat Perbukuan. The researcher collected data by using several procedures which included reviewing the textbook reading materials, conducting a checklist on the textbook, analyzing the reading materials based on the evaluation criteria, and writing the results. The instrument in this research is the checklist adapted from Pusat Perbukuan. The researcher analyzed data from an English textbook entitled “English for Change” for second grade students of senior high school based on the Curriculum Merdeka using evaluation criteria related to Pusat Perbukuan (2014). The trustworthiness of this research used content validity. The results show that the reading material in the textbook complies with the criteria in the curriculum Merdeka and meets the aspects of presentation and aspects of language use and readability proposed by Pusat Perbukuan.
