Abstract
This study aims to explore the strategies employed by English teachers in teaching reading under the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum at the Junior High School. The Merdeka Curriculum promotes student-centered learning, flexibility, and character development, making it essential to understand how teachers adapt their reading instruction to align with these principles. A qualitative research design was used, involving classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with English teachers at the junior high school level. The findings reveal that teachers utilize a combination of scaffolding techniques, thematic-based materials, and differentiated instruction to enhance students’ reading comprehension. Moreover, the integration of project-based learning and formative assessment supports the development of critical thinking and reading engagement. However, challenges such as limited resources and varying student proficiency levels remain significant. The study concludes that while teachers show creativity and adaptability in applying the Merdeka Curriculum, on going support and professional development are crucial for optimizing reading instruction. These insights contribute to the growing body of knowledge on Curriculum innovation an teachers practices in the context of language education reform in Indonesia.
