Abstract

Speaking is a crucial part of second language teaching and learning. Despite its importance for many years, teaching speaking has been undervalued and English teachers have continued to teach speaking just as repetition of drills or memorization of dialogues. This research is about The Effectiveness of Realia in Teaching on the Students’ Speaking Skill at SMPN 1 Palimanan. The aims of this research are (1) To find out the students’ English speaking skill of eighth grade at SMPN 1 Palimanan treated by using without realia.(2) To find out the students’ English speaking skill of eighth grade at SMPN 1 Palimanan treated by using realia.(3) To find out the significant effect of realia application on the eighth grade student’s English speaking skill at SMPN 1 Palimanan. The research method is quantitative, that used quasi experimental design. The third is the result of data analysis in gaining students’ score between control class and experimental class. The gaining between pre-test and post�test of control class is 11.0130, meanwhile, the gaining between pre-test and post-test of experimental class is 53.1290. The pattern of significant result it is known that the t_count score is 8.369, at df = 18 by looking at the t_tabel1,859 so it is known that 8.369 > 1.859 with a sig. (2-talled) score of 0.000 < 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a difference. The average of students' speaking skills between using realia media and without using the realia method.Therefore, based on the testing criteria, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that there are positive significant effect of the application of Realia on the students’ English speaking skill. So, the application of Realia give some contributions to the students’ English speaking skill.
