Abstract
This research is motivated by the low ability of students' reading comprehension. Based on observations during the Indonesian language learning process the teacher gave subject matter using only LKS books and caused boredom in learning while the learning contained a lot of reading texts, whereas in LKS the reading text only contained a few paragraphs and made students less able to develop reading skills, especially understanding. To overcome these problems the researcher used storybook media in learning to read in class IV MI Al-Hidayah GUPPI Cirebon City. Storybook media is a book that tells an event or a story about information that contains pictures and allows students to read, develop and add to their child's vocabulary so that they can develop their language skills. Reading ability is the ability or skills possessed by students to gain knowledge by reading and being able to understand the correct words and written symbols. The purpose of this study was to (1) determine the use of storybook media in Indonesian language subjects, (2) determine the reading ability of fourth-grade students in Indonesian language subjects, (3) determine the effect of using storybook media on the reading ability of fourth-grade students in the subject of Indonesian at MI Al-Hidayah GUPPI Cirebon City. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research with a pre-experimental design method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data collection techniques using observation and tests. The sample used is saturated because it takes the entire population of class IV MI Al Hidayah GUPPI Cirebon City, totaling 31 students. The data obtained were processed using the normality test, Wilcoxon test, and N-Gain test. The results showed that the increase in students' reading ability with an average posttest result of 91.93 was higher than the pretest average result of 74.59. As for the use of storybook media, seen from teacher observations, it shows that 100% of teachers use storybook media and make students active in learning. Then for the Wilcoxon test results, the Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value was 0.000 <0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. GUPPI Cirebon City. In the N-Gain test, the average increase in the index from the pretest to the posttest was 0.73 in the high category, which means that students' reading skills are high.
